Programme Specific Scholarships

Program awards are offered to students who are inspecific programs. The applicants must be registered as a full- or part-time student within the program of their application to be considered for the applicable award with the exception of MA awards. Students with major, minors or options are open to apply for MA specific awards.

French or English as a Second Language

This award will be awarded to at least one student from the French as a Second Language stream and one from English as a Second Language. The answer to the following prompt should be written and should not be more than 250 words.

Prompt: Describe how proficiency in English/French as a second language has enhanced your knowledge or appreciation of different cultures.

Indigenous Studies

This award will be given to 2 of students within the field of Indigenous studies. The response to the following prompt should be written and be no longer than 250 words.

Prompt: Discuss the work of an Indigenous activist or academic that you believe has had a great impact on Indigenous Studies, as well as your own education.

Medieval Studies –– EXTENDED DEADLINE: Now March, 15th 

This award will be given to 2 of students within the field of Medieval studies. The response to the following prompt should be written and be no longer than 250 words.

Prompt: Explain a topic of the medieval period that you are passionate about to someone without an understanding of the topic. Outline why you are passionate about it, what it means, and why it is important.

Modern Languages –– EXTENDED DEADLINE: Now March, 15th 

This award will be given to 2 of students within the field of Modern Languages. The response to the following prompt should be written and be no longer than 250 words.

Prompt: Describe how proficiency in additional language has enhanced your knowledge, appreciation, or understanding of their respective cultures. You may write your submission in the modern language you're studying (250 words), please provide a translation in English or French.

Interdisciplinary Studies –– EXTENDED DEADLINE: Now March, 15th

This award will be given to 8 of students within the area of Interdisciplinary Studies. The submission should be no longer than 500 words and may answer one of the following questions. The Response must reference a minimum of two (2) disciplines, and one must be within the Arts.

Prompt 1: How can interdisciplinarity be effectively translated into disciplines that are typically hesitant to change? How can interdisciplinary studies improve the way academia understands a topic?

Prompt 2: How can an interdisciplinary lens be applied to another discipline, and how would that discipline benefit from that?

Awards:

Linguistics –– EXTENDED DEADLINE: Now March, 15th

The Linguistics scholarship program will be an essay competition offering nine awards to students in the field of Linguistics. They are   open to students with majors, minors, or micro-programs in Linguistics. Submissions should be no longer than 500 words.

Prompt: 

  1. What is the most important thing you have learned in linguistics and how will you apply it in the future?

  2. How did you first learn about linguistics, and what motivated you to join the linguistics program?

  3. What do you love about linguistics?

Awards:

Golden Wug: $500.00

Silver Wug: 2 awards $250.00

Linguistics: Lightning Wugs:

Lightning Wug Award is offered to students who submit linguistics related memes, creative piece or jokes.

Theater and Acting –– EXTENDED DEADLINE: Now March, 15th

These awards are offered to all students enrolled in the study of theater or acting at the University of Ottawa. This could be their major, minor, or microprogram. The program will be an essay competition with submissions of no more than 500 words responding to the following prompt.

Prompt: What has been one experience at the uOttawa theater program that has positively impacted your life? 

Awards:

1 award $500 for an anglophone submission

1 award of $500 for a francophone submission
